Which side do I use? Start on the fine side. Move to the coarse side only for the thick stuff — heels, the outer edge of the big toe, wherever a callus has settled in. Then finish on the fine side to smooth the edges so it doesn’t catch on your socks.

How often should I use it? Once or twice a week is plenty. Filing every day just tells your feet to build the callus back thicker, which is the opposite of what you want. Always on damp, softened skin — never dry.

Pumice or a metal file? Pumice is the gentler, more forgiving option: it works gradually and it’s much harder to take off more than you meant to. Metal graters are faster and far easier to overdo. If you’ve ever filed a heel raw, pumice is the one to switch to.
